Best Blue Cities in the World

There are a lot of known and lesser-known colorful cities in the world. Today I want to talk you about the best blue cities in the world you should definitely visit!

Why blue? Blue is the color of balance and harmony. If you live a stressful life a journey through the streets of blue cities can help you to feel peaceful and calm. Usually people who love blue color don’t like chaotic places. Here is my list 🙂

Jodhpur. It is known as the Blue City of Rajasthan. It is located in the central-western part of Rajasthan, India. It was an important trade route, thanks to its strategic postiion. Nice blue walls and houses are the perfect background to the women in bright colored saris, the multicolored spices at market, the true Indian life that unfolds through the narrow streets of this charming city. I suggest you to visit the Mehrangarh Fort; from here you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the old city and the new one. At sunset it is really amazing!

Chefchaouen. I love this town in the northwest of Morocco, among the Rif Mountains. It is off the beaten path and away from the bustle of cities like Fes, Marrakech or Rabat. I visited it many years ago and it gives yous unique emotions. Arabs built Chefchaouen in 1471. The typical blue color of shutters and walls was imported by Jewish refugees who fled from Spain. It is a World Heritage Site.

Júzcar. Do you believe that there is a village of the Smurf in Andalucia, near Malaga? No, it is not the city of short people 😉 It is a village created ad hoc for the world premiere of the movie “The Smurf 3d“. White houses turn blue. The Sony, who produced the movie, promised that the village would be returned to its original color, but citizens chose blue color for their houses!

Sidi Bou Said. It is a lovely village just a few kilometers from Tunis. While in the cities listed above the dominant color is blue, Sidi Bou Said is characterized by the alternation of blue and white. There are also beautiful damask doorways with black studs, blue windows and doors.

These are the colorful cities in the world where the blue is the dominant color. If you like blue color I also suggest you to visit Greece. Here you can find white buildings with blue windows, such as the typical white churches with blue domes. Which is your favourite city?

You should also take a look at the Greek islands, especially the Dodecanese. Under the Ottoman Empire, they weren’t allowed to fly the Greek flag, so they painted their houses in its colours instead

Lovely to see these cities covered in blue. Although their color, I guess it’s pretty hard to have a “blue monday” in a scenery like this 😉 I didn’t know about Chefchaouen and the status of World Heritage Site. Thx for these #traveltips
