Residenza Farnese, Bed and Breakfast du charme

During my tour of the most traditional villages in Lazio I chose Nemi and Farnese as places to stay. Farnese is a romantic village in the earth of Tuscia. And I really get charmed by the Bed and Breakfast Residenza Farnese, which is a lovely place to stay in a fairy tale setting.

Farnese, a medieval village rich in history

First of all I’d like to tell you something more about Farnese. It is a medieval village in the province of Viterbo, a few steps from the beautiful and fascinating Lake Bolsena. Farnese stands on a tuff spur and brings with it a rich history where Etruscan, Lombard and Roman played a very important role. The name “Farnese” origins from a well known type of oak, which was very common in this area in the past. Walking through Farnese you will also see the remains of medieval era: the wells of butto, large cylindrical wells dug into the tuff. The village is surrounded by lush vegetation. Visit the small church of Sant’Anna built in the end of sixteenth century. It is decorated with frescoes telling the stories of the Virgin. These ones hide an alchemical meaning.

NOTE: do you know that Luigi Comencini chose Farnese as a set for some shots of the screenplay Pinocchio? It happened thanks to the typical features of the medieval village, perfectly preserved.

Residenza Farnese: an elegant Bed and Breakfast

The Residenza Farnese Bed and Breakfast is located in the historic centre, where you cannot access by car, but there is a free parking just a few minutes walk from there. It is inside an ancient building of the 6th century which has been restored in 2011. Residenza Farnese is unique not only for the location but also for the combination of ancient and modern details. As you enter the bed and breakfast, there is a stair and then you enter the dining room that protrudes on a lovely balcony, where you can have breakfast warmed by the sun.

Francesca, the owner, is very kind and helpful. She welcomed me with grace and class. My suite called Amour, which was about €90. It is a romantic room with attention to every detail. The wooden bed is very comfortable and the sofa near the fireplace is delightful. I loved the decorations in Provençal style. The bathroom is in resin, modern, with a large shower. I enjoyed the delicious breakfast with homemade cakes and cannot explain through words how yummy the paradise cake was.

I believe that Residenza Farnese is the ideal place to relax, away from the chaos of the city and Farnese can be a nice and romantic escape from Rome, for instance. If you are in Farnese try the Residenza Farnese Bed and Breakfast  and your stay will be special. You should choose to go to Farnese in mid-May, during the feast of Farnese in Bloom and/or in occasion of the Feast of Beer in early July.
